ORNL Develops LuGo Algorithm on Frontier Supercomputer, Reducing Quantum Circuit Gate Counts by 95% for Computational Fluid Dynamics
Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) developed LuGo, an algorithm that significantly reduces the number of quantum gate operations needed for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) by over 95%. This was achieved by using classical supercomputers like Frontier for heavy initialization routines before quantum processing, cutting down 2,000,000 logic gates to 91,000. LuGo was validated on various quantum hardware platforms and is a step towards practical high-dimensional fluid simulations on quantum processors.
