Workshop and call for contributions – Quantum Computing for Defence Simulations
The European Defence Agency (EDA) is pleased to invite you to the workshop Quantum Computing for Defence Simulations, taking place on the premises of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, 7, rue Alcide de Gasperi, L-2981 Luxembourg-Kirchberg on:
11 February 2026, 09:30–17:30 CET
12 February 2026, 09:30–13:00 CET
This inaugural and exploratory workshop will bring together experts in quantum technologies and defence to explore the potential benefits, challenges, and operational impact of quantum-based simulations for military applications.
Purpose and Objectives
The event aims to:
• Connect the European quantum research community with military stakeholders;
• Match quantum simulation capabilities to real-world defence needs;
• Identify promising defence use-cases that could benefit from quantum simulations applications in the medium term;
• Evaluate how quantum simulations could enhance military needs in training, mission planning, and multi-domain operations;
• Promote an informed and realistic understanding of quantum simulation in military contexts.
Equally, this workshop is an opportunity to broaden the EDA’s CapTechs communities by networking with new expert members and sharing best practices. Note that the workshop is held back-to-back with the closed doors 45th Meeting of EDA’s CapTech Simulation Technologies, underlining its relevance to current priorities and capability development efforts.
A social evening reception is foreseen on Wednesday February 11th for in-depth networking among participants of both events.
European Strategic Context
The workshop aligns with major European initiatives, including:
• The European Quantum Action Plan for Defence;
• The Joint White Paper for European Defence Readiness 2030;
• The Quantum Europe Strategy;
• The upcoming Quantum Act (2026).
• The EDA action plan on quantum for defence
Call for Contributions
EDA is pleased to launch a Call for Inputs and welcome your contributions.
This call for contributions is seeking 5-6 keynote speakers to outline technological outlooks focusing on military use cases for different applications of quantum computing and simulation serving defence operational domains.
Please refer to the submission guidelines in the Annex (see bottom of the text). Proposed contributions may address, but are not limited to, the following areas of application for quantum-based simulations:
• Quantum Computing for Defence Simulations of Next-Gen Designs
o Physics Modelling & Design Optimization (e.g. CFD)
o Development of new materials
o Simulation of sensing environments
• Quantum Computing for Defence Simulations in Logistics
o Logistics and supply chain
o Robustness Analysis
• Quantum Computing for Defence Simulations for Operations
o Operations research
o Mission planning optimisation
o Battlefield simulations
• Quantum Computing for Defence Simulations – Lessons Learned
o Best practices, results, and lessons learned from quantum-based simulations in defence or dual-use scenarios.
o Future use cases and experimentation.
The above listing is not exhaustive, and interested speakers are strongly encouraged to propose contributions in all thematic directions following the above use-case focussed structure.
EDA looks forward to your participation and contributions in shaping the next generation of quantum computing-enabled simulations for the European defence.
The workshop is open to members of EDA’s CapTechs and military personnel or professionals who are not yet affiliated with any EDA’s CapTech.
Participation at the workshop is on site only and free of charge.
To participate, please confirm your attendance by registering via this form NLT 08 January 2026. The final program will be shared approximately 2 weeks before the event. Please address questions to CapTechs Simulation Technologies and Guidance, Navigation and Control Chairs Veronica veronica.guidetti@eda.europa.eu and david.neumann@eda.europa.eu
ANNEX Guidelines for submission of inputs
EDA invite contributions that showcase a strong military use-case focus and outline a consistent technological roadmap outlook that shall include one or several case studies, whether at the research stage or approaching operational deployment, as well as innovative applications of quantum-based simulations addressing the topics outlined above.
This is a valuable opportunity to share insights, experimental findings, and forward-looking concepts that can shape the future of modelling and simulation technologies in defence.
Keynote speaker submissions should highlight potential roadmaps for applying quantum
simulations technologies to real-world military scenarios.
Outstanding technical contributions not selected for keynotes may be considered for poster
presentations in the workshop lobby, subject to confirmation/availability of the host venue.
Please send inputs to veronica.guidetti@eda.europa.eu and david.neumann@eda.europa.eu by 03 December 2025, as follows:
- max 250 words, minimum font size = 11, in .docx or .pdf format
- abstract, title, authors and their affiliations
The input collected will be reviewed by the workshop organising committee. Possibly all incoming inputs will have a chance to be addressed during the event.
Selected keynote speakers will be notified on a rolling basis by 15 December 2025.
