The Physics Department at École Polytechnique is recruiting 1 Tenure-track Assistant
Professor in the field of computational physics and artificial intelligence.
Candidates will be internationally recognized researchers and must demonstrate
excellent teaching skills. Candidates must hold a PhD degree and provide evidence of
research contributions at the highest international level, as attested by publications or
patents in the leading journals in their respective fields. Great importance will be
attached to candidates’ ability to work in a team and interact with the faculty members of
the Physics Department. Interactions with the Departments of Applied Mathematics
and/or Computer Science will also be appreciated.
Candidates must submit a proposal for an original research project to be carried out
within an independent research team in one of the laboratories of the Physics
Department (see lab list at this link). This position is part of École Polytechnique’s
commitment to strengthening its activities in computational physics and artificial
intelligence at the interface with applied mathematics and/or computer science.
Candidates must demonstrate broad knowledge in this field. The ability to set up
independent research projects that build bridges with existing activities at the Physics
Department will be considered an asset.
They must be able to contribute to teaching in the Physics Department at any levels of initial training
(Bachelor’s, Engineering program, and Master’s). Candidates are also expected to
participate in teaching at the interface with the Department of Applied Mathematics
and/or the Department of Computer Science, with a view towards promoting
interdisciplinary collaboration. They will be able to join the teaching teams for
fundamental courses and more specialized ones, and, in the long term, propose new
courses. Their ability to contribute to project-based teaching and to strengthen the links
between teaching, interdisciplinary research, and applications will be an important asset.
This position is offered as part of the Hi! Paris interdisciplinary center for data analysis
and artificial intelligence. Created by IP Paris and HEC Paris, joined by Inria (Inria
Saclay Center), the Hi! Paris center conducts innovative interdisciplinary research in
the field of artificial intelligence and data science. For more information, see the Hi!
Paris website.
