Research engineer position at Department for Multi-Physics for Energetics of ONERA, The French Aerospace Lab
The Department for Multi-Physics for Energetics of ONERA, The French Aerospace Lab, is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Quantum Computing team of the QTech Lab, in Palaiseau, France.
In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of novel quantum algorithms aimed at approaching nonlinear partial differential equations. In particular, you will work within the MIHYSYS project, which aims at understanding the potentialities and limitations of quantum computing to approach super and hypersonic flows. This research includes the development of strategies to contour limitations of NISQ variational quantum algorithms, as well as performing end-to-end resource estimations for early FTQC algorithms considering realistic hardware constraints of different technologies. You will work in close collaboration with french startups of the quantum ecosystem, and contribute to the design of an internal roadmap on quantum computing for aerospace applications.
We seek a Research Scientist with interests within a broad range of topics, inlcuding variational algorithms, co-design of quantum error-correction codes, resource estimation, and/or so-called classical quantum-inspired methods (tensor-networks).
Key responsibilities
Conduct research on novel quantum algorithms to approach nonlinear partial differential equations
Develop and implement quantum and classical algorithms and perform rigorous benchmarks
Contribute to end-to-end resource estimations under realistic hardware constraints
Evaluate the long-term potential of quantum computing for ONERA and contribute to an internal roadmap
Supervise students and research projects
Communicate scientific results internally and externally through publications and conference presentations
This is an open-ended contract (CDI-CPOR) with a foreseeable duration of 39 months. The recruited candidates are expected to start as soon as possible. The position includes French social security coverage and employee benefits (health insurance, public transport expenses, paid leave, etc.). We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and promote a friendly, safe, and supportive team environment.
Interested candidates are invited to apply by sending CV, motivation letter, publication record, etc, at:
