Quantum Computing Application Engineer
Position Summary
You will be employed by the quantum division of Chalmers Next Labs (CNL), a company within the Chalmers group. You will be employed by Chalmers Next Labs to work at the WACQT Research Arena – Quantum Computing. The job is full-time, permanent employment based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Chalmers Next Labs offers flexible work hours and great work-life balance.
Job Description
The WACQT Research Arena – Quantum Computing (WARA‑QC) is looking for a Quantum Computing Application Engineer to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application.
In this role, you will bring quantum computing out of the lab and apply it to real industrial problems. You will interact with industry partners through joint projects, where relevant problems are tackled in close collaboration with industry experts.
These projects aim to lower the barriers for Swedish industry to engage with quantum computing technologies and accelerate the development of real‑world quantum computing applications.
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement.
Your responsibilities
– Assessing opportunities: Evaluate where and how quantum computing can provide value and determine project suitability for quantum approaches.
– Project formulation: Assist in defining project goals and deliverables in collaboration with partners.
– Problem transformation: Support the conversion of industrial problems into quantum‑amenable forms.
– Algorithm development: Participate in the design, implementation, and execution of quantum algorithms on world-leading hardware and simulators.
– Performance evaluation: Conduct classical high-performance computing benchmarks to validate quantum solutions.
– Communication: Report results to expert and non-expert stakeholders.
Qualifications
– Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Quantum Computing, Quantum Information, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics), or equivalent experience with demonstrated knowledge of quantum algorithms.
– Demonstrated experience with quantum computing, algorithms, or simulation from e.g., coursework, thesis, or internships.
– Solid Python skills and ability to produce maintainable code.
– Proficiency with leading SDKs (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq) and quantum simulators.
Desirable Skills
– Industry‑relevant exposure in domains such as logistics, finance, materials science, or pharmaceutical applications.
– Experience with advanced simulation or algorithm development (e.g., machine learning, physics‑based modelling, optimization).
– Familiarity with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
– Contributions to open-source libraries or community benchmarks.
– Curiosity, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Application Deadline
Last day to apply is 15 February 2026. Only applications submitted through the application portal will be considered. The selection process is ongoing, and the position may close once a suitable candidate is found.
