Postdoctoral Position in Theoretical Quantum Optics — Collective Light-Matter Interactions (University of Tübingen)
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our group and work on the theoretical investigation of collective light–matter interactions, which give rise to exchange interactions and collective dissipation phenomena, such as subradiance and superradiance.
The research will focus on atomic lattice gases coupled to a common environment, typically the vacuum radiation field at zero temperature. However, we will also explore the effects of non-zero temperature baths and structured environments, such as waveguides and surfaces. These open quantum systems will serve as a platform for pursuing several research directions, including the study of topological and dynamical phase transitions and applications in quantum information processing, such as photon transport and interactions between photons stored in atomic lattices.
The research will take place in the group of Prof. Beatriz Olmos Sánchez at the University of Tübingen. The postdoctoral researcher will benefit from close collaboration and the broad expertise available within the larger research group Theoretical Atomic Physics and Synthetic Quantum Systems and the Center for Quantum Science, which unites experimental and theoretical physicists as well as mathematicians. Close collaboration with experimental groups is expected and encouraged.
Qualifications:
• PhD (or equivalent) in theoretical physics or a closely related field
• Demonstrated background in quantum optics (minimum requirement)
• Preference will be given to applicants with prior research experience in collective light–matter interactions (e.g., subradiance, superradiance)
• Strong academic record, motivation, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Applications should include:
• Curriculum Vitae (including publication list)
• At least one recommendation letter (can be provided at a later stage)
Please send all application materials to beatriz.olmos-sanchez@uni-tuebingen.de.
Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
The starting date is flexible and can be as soon as possible. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension to two years or more.
The University of Tübingen is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from persons with disabilities will be given preference in the case of equal suitability. Our research group is strongly committed to increasing the number of women in research and teaching, and we especially encourage women to apply.
