Netflix’s Movie “Heart of Stone” Shows Us What a “Real World” Quantum Computer with Predictive AI Capabilities Has the Potential to Do
Venturing into the captivating realms of espionage, Netflix’s “Heart of Stone” emerges as a 2023 American spy action thriller, masterfully orchestrated by the visionary Tom Harper. Crafted from the creative minds of Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder, with an underlying narrative woven by Rucka, the film beckons audiences into a riveting journey — or so it should.
A coterie of talented actors graces the screen — Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, and Matthias Schweighöfer — their ability had the potential to intertwine seamlessly to construct an electrifying tapestry, even though, in my own humble opinion, the film was somewhat lacking in many departments.
But what’s the movie all about?
Gadot assumes the role of secret operative Rachel Stone in the blockbuster, helmed by director Tom Harper (known for Peaky Blinders and Wild Rose). Yet, she’s not your typical agent — Stone is a part of an enigmatic and secretive assembly of top-tier spies referred to as the Charter. Within the preview, they are depicted as “the most extensively trained operatives — devoid of political inclinations or national loyalties — collaborating to maintain tranquillity in a turbulent world.” To achieve their lofty goals, these agents rely on a unique asset named the Heart. “Owning the Heart implies global dominance,” elucidates Rachel Stone’s MI6 counterpart Parker (Jamie Dornan) in the trailer. This strategy aligns with Keya Dhawan’s (Alia Bhatt) intentions; her pursuit of locating and controlling the Heart places global stability in jeopardy. Can Stone thwart her ambitions before it’s too late? Gadot takes on the role of MI6 agent Parker’s counterpart, with Alia Bhatt portraying the hacker Keya Dhawan.
Whatever you think of the film, what should be of interest to our readers is “The Heart,” a quantum computer imbued with predictive AI capabilities, possessing the prowess to infiltrate any digital apparatus, assumes the role of guiding all operations. The Heart’s mandate involves monitoring all human data, scrutinizing and identifying patterns, which are subsequently employed to make predictions. The Charter leverages the Heart to assess given scenarios and aid their operatives in devising plans.
Now, though I’m no Roger Ebert and haven’t the formal qualifications to say whether a movie is good or bad, if you’re into your James Bond or Mission Impossible flicks, or even enjoy movies where quantum technology is showcased (like “Devs”, a 2020 science fiction thriller television miniseries created, written and directed by Alex Garland) then you should be good to go.
For everybody else, stay well away!
