Economist Impact will hold its annual Commercialising Quantum Global Summit June 5th-6th at Convene 22 Bishopsgate in London. The in-person event will bring together enterprise end users, leading academics in the field, and quantum technology pioneers. The agenda ranges from accessible insights into developing applications to more technical deep-dives aimed at distinguishing hype from reality.
Quantum stands as one of the defining technologies of our age, with countries across the world investing heavily to support national innovation. In 2023, the UK government announced it would invest £2.5 billion in quantum over the next ten years and launched its Quantum Missions roadmap. Denmark announced its national quantum strategy promising an annual investment of 250 million DKK into quantum research and innovation from 2023-2027. In the US, the National Quantum Initiative, launched in 2018, is set to be renewed for another five years.
Commercialising Quantum Global offers timely discussions on how quantum technologies can be applied outside of the lab, and how we can best focus efforts and investment to drive innovation forward. At last year’s Summit, more than 1,500 global leaders, policy makers and business executives participated from 80 countries, with 606 attendees in person.
Attendees can expect to learn about the solutions that quantum technologies – including but not limited to quantum computing – offer to the world’s biggest challenges. Delegates at 2024’s Summit will hear how sensing, simulation, cryptography and photonics offer innovative solutions across sectors such as finance, cybersecurity, energy, climate, and defence. To conclude the event, the winner of the Institute of Physics Quantum Business and Innovation Growth (qBIG) prize will be announced. This award recognises the work of up-and-coming quantum SMEs in the UK and Ireland striving to take their solutions to market.
The agenda boasts a lineup of over one hundred speakers, including Hermann Hauser, Co-founder of Amadeus Capital Partners, Lene Oddershede, Senior vice president of Novo Nordisk, Dr Lara Jehi, Chief research information officer of The Cleveland Clinic, Alberto Prado, Vice president, Global head of digital and partnerships at Unilever and Professor Mikhail Lukin, Co-director of the Quantum Science and Engineering Initiative at Harvard.
Guided by The Economist’s editors, participants can anticipate informative panels and engaging discussions on this rapidly advancing field. Day one will feature a new photonics focus day, exploring business opportunities and applications in geographical surveying, satellite communications, and precision navigation in space. Day two sessions will look at sensing-enabled solutions, nanoscale innovations, and the deployment of quantum technologies in healthcare, finance, defence and climate modelling.
