University of Vienna Demonstrates First In-Orbit Operation of a Programmable Quantum Photonic Processor
A research team from the University of Vienna and VCQ has successfully demonstrated the first in-orbit operation of a programmable quantum photonic processor on a nanosatellite. This achievement transitions spaceborne quantum hardware from communication to active, on-board edge quantum processing. The system performed two-photon quantum interference and programmable matrix execution, proving the viability of quantum machine learning for tasks like onboard satellite image analysis and data reduction.
