SkyWater Launches Quantum Semiconductor Manufacturing Business

PRESS RELEASE — SkyWater Technology announced the launch of SkyWater Quantum Solutions, a dedicated merchant supplier offering focused on semiconductor process development, integration, and manufacturing. This unique offering will provide semiconductor solutions for quantum-computing, networking, and sensing applications.
Dr. Mihir Bhaskar will lead SkyWater Quantum Solutions as senior vice president and general manager. Prior to this role, Bhaskar was senior vice president of Research and Development at IonQ, leading advanced research and development across the company’s expanding quantum technology portfolio. Bhaskar was previously co-founder and CEO of Lightsynq Technologies, prior to its acquisition by IonQ in 2025. Lightsynq was created to develop integrated photonic interconnect technology for linking diverse quantum computing systems together.
SkyWater Quantum Solutions brings together SkyWater’s semiconductor process development and manufacturing capabilities via their proven Technology as a Service model. Those capabilities specialize in superconducting and quantum photonics technologies, heterogeneous integration, and advanced packaging. The offerings are intended to help customers accelerate their time to market. This is achieved by incorporating manufacturing requirements earlier in the development of quantum devices and systems.

Quantum Development and Manufacturing Capabilities
SkyWater Quantum Solutions will provide quantum-focused process development, device integration, characterization, and manufacturing support. SkyWater engineers will work with customer teams on materials, process modules, device structures, and integration requirements. The integrated approach ensures process control and repeatability. Initial offerings include SC250, a superconducting technology platform, focused on high-density cryogenic interconnect and control; and SP90, a low-loss silicon-nitride photonics technology platform for quantum applications.
The platforms can be combined with SkyWater’s heterogeneous-integration and advanced-packaging capabilities to incorporate additional materials, active devices, and optical interfaces. Development programs may range from individual process modules to customized engagements involving process integration, characterization, and manufacturing support. This enables the customized capabilities quantum technologies need in a mature, trusted foundry environment.
Nexus Photonics Adds Heterogenous Photonics Capabilities
IonQ’s acquisition of Nexus Photonics adds expertise in the heterogeneous integration of III-V materials with silicon photonics, available to SkyWater Quantum Solutions’ customers. These capabilities support the integration of active photonic components, including lasers, amplifiers, modulators, and photodetectors onto a photonic chip at scale.
SkyWater Quantum Solutions combines relevant Nexus capabilities with its SP90 platform and other quantum-critical materials, such as diamond and lithium niobate. The resulting development work will focus on integrated photonic devices for scalable routing, control, and processing in quantum optical systems. Supported systems include photonic, trapped ion, and neutral atom quantum computers, quantum networks, and quantum sensors.
SkyWater and Qolab Begin Superconducting Quantum-Development Program
SkyWater also announced today a new development program with Qolab, the superconducting quantum-computing company co-founded by Dr. John M. Martinis, a 2025 Nobel laureate in physics.
The program will combine Qolab’s superconducting quantum-hardware expertise with SkyWater’s process-development and manufacturing capabilities. It will include the SC250 superconducting platform to advance Qolab’s Quantum System-in-Package (QSiP), which is designed to address key cost, complexity, and form-factor scaling challenges.
“SkyWater brings an established track record of supporting quantum programs and gives us access today to the specialized capabilities needed to advance our Quantum System-in-Package,” said Dr. Martinis. “QSiP is designed to materially improve quantum system economics by integrating costly, complex cryogenic control components into a compact package. Combining SkyWater’s rapid, flexible development support with a repeatable commercial wafer services model gives us the manufacturing and cost visibility needed to iterate quickly and build a clear path toward commercial deployment.”
