Description:
The Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS) is a new, high-profile research institute chaired by Prof. Shing-Tung Yau and supported by the Shanghai municipal government of Yangpu District and Fudan University. Located in cosmopolitan Shanghai, SIMIS is building a world-class platform for foundational research and cross-disciplinary innovation. Core areas of research span basic and applied mathematics, theoretical physics (SIMIS will host Strings 2026), and cutting-edge intersections with artificial intelligence and biomedicine. PhD students and postdoctoral fellows at SIMIS are primarily supported through institute-level funding.
Fudan University, founded in 1905 and consistently ranked among China’s top universities (currently 36th in the Times Higher Education global ranking), offers an intellectually rich and globally connected home for faculty. With four campuses in the heart of Shanghai and more than 70 undergraduate programs, 112 cross-disciplinary research institutes, and 5 national key laboratories, Fudan provides robust infrastructure and interdisciplinary opportunity. Its thriving international community—spanning partnerships with over 270 institutions worldwide—and strong support for high-impact research make Fudan an ideal place for scholars to build global collaborations and pursue large-scale research projects.
