Abstract: In recent years, the notion of magic in quantum physics –
originally confined to more esoteric quantum information processing
subfields – has attracted the attention of the community of quantum
many-body physics, quantum chaos and complexity, high-energy physics,
AdS-CFT and the foundations of quantum mechanics. In this colloquium, we
will give a survey of what quantum magic is, how it can be measured, and
why we should care (and why and when we should not).
