PRESS RELEASE — New Scale Technologies is pleased to announce its support as a supplier to Q-Block Computing, a member of the Luminate 2024 cohort.
Q-Block Computing provides fault-tolerant quantum devices for advanced computation, communication, and sensing. It utilizes New Scale Technologies’ M3 Rotary Smart Stages in its es-110, a commercially available ultrastable laser for researchers in quantum science and technology with applications in quantum information science, ultraprecise time-frequency standards, phase coherent telecommunication, and optical space telecommunication.
Q-Block Computing is part of the Luminate accelerator and investment fund for photonics start-ups in Rochester, NY. Luminate selects high-potential technology startups from hundreds of global applicants and introduces them to funding, mentors, a rigorous entrepreneurial curriculum, and a supply chain to support their growth. The Rochester optics and photonics ecosystem provides a unique and collaborative backdrop for the program.
Kyung Choi, Co-Founder of Q-Block Computing, states, “We sought out New Scale Technologies’ M3 rotary smart stage because it was the only one on the market that offered high accuracy, low heat, and manufacturability. We were surprised and pleased to discover they’re a Rochester company.”
New Scale Technologies’ M3 Rotary Smart Stage is used to coarse-tune the wavelength of the miniature laser module by precisely rotating a narrow-band interference filter. Heat output can reduce energy output and impact the design and footprint when other components are needed to compensate. Q-Block Computing selected a piezo-based stage due to its extreme precision and accuracy but was challenged to find an affordable solution at a scale that met its small size and heat requirements. M3 Rotary Smart Stages are designed for easy integration and high-accuracy beam steering in small instruments.
M3-RS-U2 Rotary Stage, a closed-loop controller embedded in the micro stage, provides fast integration for embedded motion in small instruments. Millisecond step and settle times for high accuracy point-to-point beam steering.
New Scale Technologies CEO David Henderson states, “Q-Block Computing’s es-110 laser makes great use of our tiny rotary stage and aligns perfectly with our unique value proposition.”
New Scale Technologies offers a range of OEM-ready piezo motion controllers. They will continue to explore ways to collaborate with Q-Block Computing on their upcoming product development to further quantum technology.
